I usually limit my political rants to friends and family, but not today.
Donald Trump has been the target of attempted assassinations twice, and both times, ranking Democrats immediately expressed concern, shored up security measures, opened investigations, and publicly expressed relief that his wounds required nothing more than a maxi pad.
Republicans were equally immediate to blame the “dangerous rhetoric” of the Democratic party for making Trump a target.
But the truth is, for Democrats to warn voters that a candidate who refuses to commit to accepting the results of a free and fair election and routinely threatens a political reckoning on day one of the second term he believes to be certain is not “dangerous rhetoric.” It’s pointing out the canary’s dead in the coal mine.
The Democratic party’s restraint is noble but doesn’t stop the flow of oxygen to the Republican firestorm of are you fucking kidding me?
Back in 2022, when Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul was viciously attacked in their home by a Trumper armed with a hammer looking to kneecap Nancy, Trump turned it into a gay sex gone bad joke. When Trump got grazed by a bullet, Biden called to express his concern even before Trump thought, photo op! and placed the order for Never Surrender T-shirts.
Here my point. The political parties are no longer distinguished by policy. There’s no equivalence between red vs. blue. What we have is the party of accountability vs. the party crashers, and if we lose, they can’t wait to set the house on fire.
JD Vance saying it’s because Dems call Trump a fascist, while Trump has repeatedly referred to Kamala as a Marxist-Fascist-Communist (huh?) who will destroy America….
Yup.
