a simple rectangle

empty, with light.

hill at its back, tattered garland of peace flags.

the house is resting.

there’s beauty in the intermezzo,

a calm settling like snow.

my excitement is out of place here, like when i was a kid, laughing in church,

so i step outside to imagine what comes next.
